I’ve had people ask me questions about foods that are great for sex and foods that should be eaten before sex if you want to last longer. Truth is, when considering foods that will be great for sex, there are so many things to look at because so many things come to play for an individual to have a great time. We are talking about sex hormones, stamina, nutrients, minerals, and hydration.
With regards to hydration, all you need to do is drink a lot of water daily since water is very essential for your health, vaginal lubrication, and sexual function.
Sex hormones like estrogen and testosterone are very important for great sex. Estrogen is responsible for vaginal lubrication, hence low levels causes vaginal dryness. Testosterone is responsible for sexual desire and it is present in both men (high amounts) and women (relatively low amounts). A reduction in testosterone levels can affect an individual’s libido greatly and make them have little or no interest in sex.
Nutrients and minerals necessary for great sexual function include zinc, magnesium, potassium, isoflavone, l-arginine, vitamins and several others. Zinc is necessary for estrogen and testosterone level regulation. Additionally, zinc and magnesium deficiency causes vaginal dryness. Isoflavone mimics estrogen function in lubricating the vagina and l-arginine improves female sexual desire and satisfaction. L-arginine is also great for erectile function, so it gives men harder and longer erections.
In this post, I will introduce you to foods that improve sexual function so that the next time you go shopping for groceries, you can fill your cart with more of such foods.
FOODS FOR VAGINAL LUBRICATION (WETTER VAGINA)
Always remember that the vagina needs to be wet for sex to be pleasurable for a woman. These foods increase estrogen levels or contain minerals necessary for vaginal lubrication:
- Kidney beans
- Soy foods
- Nuts (walnuts, almonds, and peanuts)
- Flax seeds
- Sesame seeds
- Garlic
- Dried fruits (like apricots, prunes, and dates)
- Wholegrain bread
- Bell peppers
FOODS FOR TO BOOST YOUR SEX DRIVE
These foods should increase your desire for sex and boost your libido.
Notable libido-boosters/aphrodisiacs for both men and women:
- Maca
Maca is available in capsules, liquid extracts, or powder. Combining the root with sea moss has been known to work great at increasing libido and stamina. It helps with arousal and makes you last longer (erections). Try it!
- Ginseng
Ginseng is a reputed aphrodisiac and is used to treat sexual dysfunction (problems with sexual response, desire, and inability to get orgasms).
- Fenugreek

- Celery: improves erectile function for men to get harder erections and last longer
- Strawberry: for a boost in libido
- Saffron: increases sex drive and boosts stamina
ALCOHOL
Some people have a thing for drunken sex because it makes them want to do the craziest things. Alcohol also increases your desire for sex, but it is safe to note that, drinking too much can go against your sexual performance and ability to have a great time. It can leave you dehydrated and make the sex rather unpleasant. Take note of that.
In general terms, the key to a great sex life is a healthy diet and lifestyle. Drink a lot of water and eat a lot of fruits, vegetables, and more of the foods mentioned in this article.
